Trip To SMK Bekenu

"If all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion." - George Bernard Shaw

What's Up?

Again, today is my second time of this year waking up at 6am...ahaha! It's because I'm following the Human Life Service to SMK Bekenu to give a few talks. We are going to give talks to the form 2 students in that school. Our team consisted of 6 people which were Dorothy, Albert, Callistus, Edward, Marvin and me. Haha...Marvin and I were just helping as volunteer since we got nothing to do.

29042008

Our journey begins! Took us about 40 minutes I think...to reach there.

When we reached the place, after we got down from the van, I can feel the fresh air and the environment is just different than Miri. It's a very nice place I would say, the school is surrounded by forest all around. Yeah, the school is very big but the number of students is very small. I think the size of the school is 4 times bigger than my secondary school (SMK St. Columba) but they only have about 600 students. LOL...it's very empty and not even half of the school is being used. So many empty classrooms around...

29042008(016)

Main Entrance

29042008(001)

School compound. Emptiness...

29042008(002)

Silence...

29042008(004)

Backyard. Nice eh...

29042008(013)

Unused classrooms...LOL!

There were about 120 form 2 students attending the talk. The school counselor, Miss Yip was the teacher in charge of the whole thing. The talks were great, they were talking about 'Love and Life', 'Friendship' and some others which I could not remember the titles. The students did gave a good respond, which is actually a good thing, so at least they're having fun and not bored. Ahaha! I also learnt a few things, so yeah...its a great experience for me too.

29042008(007)

The students...

Going home...

As for lunch, we had it in Miss Yip's office. The food was so-so, cooked by the school canteen. Ah well, thank God there is still food for us. School was over by then, LOL...all I could say the school was complete silence and empty. Only some teachers stayed back to finish their work. After lunch, Miss Yip brought us to the beach, Pantai Bungai. It was a few minutes ride from the school. Oh man...it's beautiful! I would come here with my friends next time, we can picnic, BBQ and even stay over there. It would be a wonderful outdoor activity.

29042008(015)

Lets Go!

29042008(020)

God's wonderful creation!

29042008(027)

Another one!

29042008(031)

Rejoice!

29042008(033)

We'll come back...someday, but don't know when.

Actually we planned to drive to Bekenu town to try their prawn noodles but somehow we got to go back to Miri because of some problem. At first, we were so excited to try the prawn noodle but it just didn't happen. Sad... We'll drive there someday to try it! We reach Miri around 4pm. Marvin and I went to SMK St. Joseph because his dad was there and I got to follow them back. Before sending me home, we went for cendol. Yummy! Then...back home!

School Service

"I never put on a pair of shoes until I've worn them for five years." - Samuel Goldwyn

What's Up?

Today is the first time in this year I woke up at 6.00am. LOL...all these while I've been waking up late, I was so reluctant to wake up actually. I guess you will be asking me why.

This month is the "Science and Mathematics Month" for SMK St. Columba; and they have an exhibition today. So Marvin and I, as ex-students/prefects of the school decided to help out a little. since we got nothing else to do anyways. We were actually volunteers and were in charge for the 'Human Life Service' section. 'Human Life Service' was invited by the school to exhibit some stuff although I think it don't really have anything to do with Science or Maths. It's more to human rights and so on...

Anyways, I won't be typing much but I'll just post up some photos...

25042008(017)

Banner. Not really innovative or creative though...ahaha!

25042008(002)

The exhibition hall. Even some primary school students were invited.

So what was I doing...?

25042008(032)

My section - Human Life Service

25042008(001)

Take a look!

25042008(030)

Socializing...LOL!

25042008(019)

Process of birth. Beauty!

25042008(028)

So pitiful... Say 'NO' to abortion! Don't be a killer!

25042008(024)

We were selling this as well, I bought a copy for myself too. RM3...much cheaper than normal price which is RM10.

And now, let's see how's others are doing...

25042008(003)

Saponification!

A soap making process. Demonstration for the kids...

25042008(011)

Rockets! Up Up and Away...... Remember the old times when we play with it.

25042008(016)

Perfumes!? Erk...smells so bad.

25042008(022)

Optical illusion. I guess you have seen most of it, just some common ones.

25042008(023)

Art? What is it got to do with Maths and Science? LOL...

25042008(026)

Robot soccer. Haha...it's so old already.

25042008(025)
Health section.

Not bad! Checked my BMI and I'm normal...yay! Just that...blood pressure a bit high, I don't know why also.

25042008(018)

Yes! You turn into a 'wine' that you can't drink. It's acid which looks like a wine. They called it magic trick, I call it Chemistry...lalala...

25042008(015)

Density! Add different liquids of different density and you get a rainbow colour. Nice!

25042008(010)

Crystals! Wonderful...

25042008(008)

We make silver too! Beautiful...

Lemon juice can be used as invisible ink to write hidden message...

25042008(033)

Before

25042008(034)

After heating the filter paper, the message is revealed.

So I guess that's all for today, kinda tired too. I would wanna say some of this is just to trick some little kids or people who never study Chemistry or Physics...ahaha! For example the colour changing thingy, some people actually thought it was a real magic. You add a chemical into another chemical and it turns out to be something else. Haha...done!

Dubai Is Nuts!

Today, I'm going to talk about some stuff about Dubai. Haha...I know it's so random to talk about this. Seriously, one day I'm gonna make a trip to Dubai!

Dubai is just so crazy with their development. You'll see all kinds of crazy but awesome architecture over there. They are coming up day by day. This is what happens when a country have lots of money and don't have a better place to spend it.

Dubai is NUTS!

I'm going to post up some photos about Dubai...

Dubai1990-full

Dubai in 1990 prior to craziness. As you can see, it's desert!

Dubai2003-full

The same street in 2003. See the difference? In 13 years, so much changes can be done!

bd011907diminishingsmilyp2-custom

Last year. Developing fast man!

dubaicontrtuc2222222-custom

The madness. Dubai is said to currently have 15-25% of all the world's cranes. Seriously happening!

AlBurjPanorama-custom

The Dubai Waterfront. When completed it will become the largest waterfront development in the world. The night lights are awesome!

24280810_3dd983b2e4_o-custom

All of this was built in the last 5 years, including that island that looks like a palm tree. Brilliant and creative idea!

Picture1-full

The Palm Islands in Dubai. New Dutch dredging technology was used to create these massive man made islands. They are the largest artificial islands in the world and can be seen from space. Three of these Palms will be made with the last one being the largest of them all.

800px-Palm_Island_Resort2-full

Upon completion, the resort will have 2,000 villas, 40 luxury hotels, shopping centers, movie theaters, and many other facilities. It is expected to support a population of approximately 500,000 people. It is advertised as being visible from the moon. It gonna be a city itself..ahaha!

TheWorldDubai-custom

The World Islands. 300 artificially created islands in the shape of the world. Each island will have an estimated cost of $25-30 million. Another crazy thing but who cares? They even want a 'world' for themselves.

burj_al_arab-full

The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai. The worlds tallest hotel. Considered the only '7 star' hotel and the most luxurious hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island in the sea. It's said to cost about RM2000 per night. Damn expensive but awesome. I'm so gonna stay there one day!

Picture4-full

Hydropolis, the world's first underwater hotel. Entirely built in Germany and then assembled in Dubai, it is scheduled to be completed by 2009 after many delays. Extreme engineering! I will also go there if possible.

Burj20Dubai20Tower201-full

The Burj Dubai. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be complete by 2008. At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Taipei 101. Wow...another skyscraper!

DOWNTOWN-custom

This is what downtown Dubai will look like around 2008-2009. More than 140 stories of the Burj Dubai have already been completed. It is already the worlds tallest man made structure and it is still not scheduled to be completed for at least another year. I think they're the richest city on earth!

albu32mu-full

The Al Burj. This will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Waterfront. Once completed it will take over the title of the tallest structure in the world from the Burj Dubai. One tower not enough? This is super tall! Another extreme!

AlBurjDay-full

Recently it was announced that the final height of this tower will be 1200 meters. That would make it more than 30% taller than the Burj Dubai and three times as tall as the Empire State Building. They're already the top, how high they wanna go? LOL!

burjalalaam2-custom

The Burj al Alam, or The World Tower. Upon completion it will rank as the world's highest hotel. It is expected to be finished by 2009. At 480 meters it will only be 28 meters shorter than the Taipei 101. Again...they're the tallest! Nice building...

TrumpHotelDubai-custom

The Trump International Hotel & Tower, which will be the centerpiece of one of the palm islands, The Palm Jumeirah. Wow! Look at the building...extreme architecture and engineering!

Dubailand2006-full

Dubailand. Currently, the largest amusement park collection in the world is Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, which is also the largest single-site employer in the United states with 58,000 employees. Dubailand will be twice the size. Haha...a theme park in a desert. Don't mess!

nternational-Dubai-Sports-City-full

dubailand_map_big-full Dubailand will be built on 3 billion square feet (107 miles² ) at an estimated $20 billion price tag. The site will include a purported 45 mega projects and 200 hundred other smaller projects. So much money but too little to spend. All money goes into this!

DSC-adv-full

Currently, the Walt Disney World Resort is the #1 tourist destination in the world. Once fully completed, Dubailand will easily take over that title since it is expected to attract 200,000 visitors daily. Good idea. But well...let's see how it goes...

Pictugre1-full

Dubai Sports City. A huge collection of sports arenas located in Dubailand. Dubai might be the main attraction for sports events in the world! It's a 'city' itself.

marina_banner_tcm3-250-full

The Dubai Marina is an entirely man made development that will contain over 200 highrise buildings when finished. It will be home to some of the tallest residential structures in the world. The completed first phase of the project is shown. Most of the other high rise buildings will be finished by 2009-2010. Haha...gonna be much better than the Marina Bay in Miri eh.

new-full

Some of the tallest buildings in the world, such as Ocean Heights and The Princess Tower, which will be the largest residential building in the world at over a 100 stories, will line the Dubai Marina. Great! I wanna stay there!

Dubaimall-full

The Dubai Mall will be the largest shopping mall in the world with over 9 million square feet of shopping and around 1000 stores. It will be completed in 2008. Great! Hope that there will be people to fill up the place...ahaha!

jhgfjhgj-full

Ski Dubai, which is already open, is the largest indoor skiing facility in the world. This is a rendered image of another future indoor skiing facility that is being planned. Skiing in a desert...how cool is that? Haha!

SkiDubai4

Enjoy!

10_uae-spaceport-concept-full

The UAE Spaceport would be the first spaceport in the world if construction ever gets under way. Haha...even US have no chance for this.

Some other other crazy shit facts...

  • The Dubai Metro system, once completed, will become the largest fully automated rail system in the world.
  • The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume. I'm actually wondering how many people go to Dubai everyday...
  • There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens. So yeah, it's impossible for you to find a job there.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON OVER THERE?

Who would thought a desert will become so advance? They're going to have the tallest, largest...and whatever the best stuff in the world! They're so rich and can do whatever they want. Civil engineers, architects, interior designers...I bet you will certainly find a job there. But yeah...be professional!

Shall we go?
